Ogun State Commissioner for Education Mrs Modupe Mujota yesterday at a day public maiden lecture organized by Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu-Ijebu where she was the Chief Lecturer stated the rationale behind the withdrawal of payment for WAEC fee for Ogun Students. She said the resolve was as a result of the evaluation of the last WASSCE and NECO result of Students in the last examination in the state.
According to the eloquent orator-Mujota, she said students performed woefully in the WAEC while the NECO examination being paid for by parents had an excellent result where Ogun took the lead in ranking. She said it is obvious parents demanded for best performance from their wards in the NECO examination because they paid for it. She nonetheless hammer on the need for all stakeholders to combat the basic challenges of qualitative education while comparing the education of yesterday to that of today and projection for the future. The commissioner opined that the unified examination has made it possible for the state to critically assess the work effectiveness of teachers as well as students performance while detailed data of Ogun Students is in the reach of the ministry.
In her opening remarks, the Chairman of the occasion Professor Jumoke Bilesanmi-Awoderu challenged the institution to keep the maiden lecture alive where educational challenges will be fashioned out and solution proffered. Also, the NCCE Executive Secretary, Professor Bappa – Aliyu Mohammed pointed out that the theme Education Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow is coming at a time policies on Education needed to be revisited to capture the need and yearnings of today.
Similarly, Professor Taiwo Edun of Olabisi Onabanjo University who appraised the topic has tutored by the Chief Lecturer said remuneration of teachers should be the highest in any country that wishes for development citing Singapore as a case study. He noted that the changes in some policies especially that which fuss religious studies with National Values should be properly discuss because of its heat in the polity.
The Provost and Host, a one time Chairman of Old Ifo Local Government before the advent of LCDA, Dr Kiadese Adeola Lukmon in his welcome address appreciated his past teachers present at the occasion while assuring that his best us yet to be seen. He noted that the school will not relent in producing quality teachers for various citadel while assuring the audience of continuous lectures which its blue print will be submitted at the appropriate quarters.
The Royal father of the day Oba Mufutau Kasali, Professor Edun, Professor Jumoke Bilesanmi-Awoderu, SUG representative showered encomiums, blessings and eulogy on the Provost especially over his sucesss on getting accreditation for all the courses in the college and his developmental and goal oriented achievements since his administration began.
Earlier, the Commissioner had visited some of the building, features and fittings plus equipments possessed by the College while assuring the College of total support by the State Government.
Its not a mistake that we agreed Dr Kiadese Adeola should come to the school as her Provost, we are glad he is doing us proud with his relentless effort. I thank him most sincerely for ensuring all the courses in the school is accredited, this is a feat that will remain evergreen
Spicing up the event are special rendition and presentation by the TASCE Staff School pupils, Skit by the English Department of the College and the Coral band of the School.
