Ogun to Extend Transition Committee Tenure


Ogun State government is prepared to extend the tenure of the caretaker committees for another three months.

According to sources privy to the meeting, a joint meeting held yesterday with the council of Obas, transition chairmen, Commissioner for Local government&Chieftaincy title and the Governor, it was resolved that a tenure elongation should be considered because of paucity of fund to finance local government election.

The proposal by next week will be sent to the house of assembly for deliberation and endorsement. Ogun assembly members who had been in Abuja for official training and symposium are bid to come back for legislative assignment by Tuesday.

The caretaker committee was set up immediately after the tenure of lawfully elected administration expired on August 1st 2015. With the proposed tenure elongation, the stay in office will lapse in July.

Ogun is also proposing the creation of LCDAs which has reached a stage of conduction of referendum in the newly created 5LCDAs.
